ARSENAL'S MIDFIELDERS 2011-2012

2. Abou Diaby

When he's fit and firing on all cylinders, Abou is one of Arsenal's most dynamic players.

Physically strong and reassuringly tall, the French midfielder can transform defence into attack with a twist, a turn and a driving run. What's more he loves to get forward to support the attack and contributes his fair share of goals.

Abou used to operate on the left of midfield but he has benefited from Arsenal's switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation and now he spends more time in his favoured central role.

A graduate of the famous Clairefontaine Academy near Paris, Abou captained France Under-19s to success in the 2005 European Championship.
Abou Diaby was a 'non-homegrown' player in Arsenal's official 2010/11 Premier League squad.

7. Tomas Rosicky

Tomas is one of the elder statesmen of Arsène Wenger's squad and is now back in full flow after missing 18 months through injury.
The Czech provides guile and valuable experience whenever he gets a game and, despite that lengthy lay-off, appears to have lost none of the craft, cleverness or final-third invention that makes him so easy on the eye.
Tomas scored a rare header last season against Leyton Orient but it's fair to say he doesn't get among the goals as he used to after scoring 13 times in his first two years with the Gunners.

However, his eye for an opening can still break down the most stubborn of defences.
Tomas Rosicky was a 'non-homegrown' player in Arsenal's official 2010/11 Premier League squad.

16. Aaron Ramsey

Aaron is one of the most promising midfielders in the Premier League.

Signed from Cardiff in the summer of 2008, the Wales international appears to have it all: technique, vision, workrate, an eye for goal and a range of passing that makes him a perfect fit for Arsenal's engine room.

Aaron made great strides in his first season, bossing a Champions League game at Olympiacos and scoring his first goals in the Premier League and at international level.

His steady progess was checked by a sickening injury suffered at Stoke in February 2010 but Aaron has put that behind him and showed he was back to his best with the winner against Manchester United last term.
Now captain of his country and a vital cog in the Arsenal midfield, Aaron is ready to go from strength to strength this season.
Aaron Ramsey was under the age of 21 on January 1, 2010 and therefore it was not necessary to name him in Arsenal's official Premier League squad.

17. Alex Song

In the past three seasons Alex has carved himself a niche as Arsenal's No 1 defensive midfielder.

Strong in the tackle, positionally aware and a good distributor of the ball, he is becoming a master at protecting his back four, breaking up opposition forays and initiating attacks.

Arsène Wenger's 4-2-3-1 formation allowed Alex to flourish last season in his preferred position behind the more attack-minded midfielders. His partnership with Jack Wilshere would prove to be the backbone of the Arsenal side.

Expect Alex to be his usual solid self again this season.
Alex Song was a 'homegrown' player in Arsenal's official 2010/11 Premier League squad.

19. Jack Wilshere

Skilful, strong, inventive and versatile, Jack is one of the most exciting young talents in the English game.

He joined Arsenal in 2001 as a nine-year-old and has enjoyed a meteoric rise ever since. By 16 he had made his Reserve team debut and he became Arsenal's youngest ever League player when he came on at Blackburn in September 2008 aged 16 years and 256 days.

Jack gained experience on loan at Bolton in 2009/10 and took the Premier League by storm last season, making more appearances than any other Arsenal player as he cemented his place in midfield.
Jack is not only established with his club - he's now a mainstay of the England side too. Both teams will be looking to the youngster for inspiration for many years to come.
Jack Wilshere was under the age of 21 on January 1, 2010 and therefore it was not necessary to name him in Arsenal's official Premier League squad.

23. Andrey Arshavin

Andrey arrived at Emirates Stadium in one of the 2008/09 season’s most protracted transfer sagas. He was definitely worth the wait.

The Russian playmaker proved almost instantly that he is a world-class talent who can make a big difference to this Arsenal side.

He scored an awesome foursome at Anfield during his debut season and showed his love for the big stage with an unforgettable winner against Barcelona in the Champions League last term.

Andrey’s vision, technical ability and eye for goal give Arsenal an extra dimension and his versatility is another big plus. He played on flank last season but can also play through the centre, as he does when captaining his country.
Andrey Arshavin was a 'non-homegrown' player in Arsenal's official 2010/11 Premier League squad.

26. Emmanuel Frimpong

Emmanuel told Arsenal.com in 2009 that he wanted to play for Ghana. But such has been his progress since then, Arsène Wenger has urged England to secure his services for themselves.

The young midfielder could represent either but, in the short-term, he just wants to play for Arsenal after spending the majority of last season on the sidelines.

That dream moved closer to reality with another strong pre-season showing where Emmanuel impressed in Arsenal's engine room. There's no doubt he has the physique to flourish in a defensive midfield role and his passing is solid if not spectacular.

A knee injury meant he was left behind by some of his peers last term but expect him to make up for lost time this season.
Emmanuel Frimpong was under the age of 21 on January 1, 2010 and therefore it was not necessary to name him in Arsenal's official 2010/11 Premier League squad.

40. Craig Eastmond

Following his breakthrough season of 2009/10, when he made seven first-team appearances, industrious midfielder Craig began the last campaign with aspirations of cementing a place in Arsène Wenger’s first-team squad.
His good form for the Reserves was rewarded with three first-team appearances before Christmas, including a first outing in the Champions League when he was named in the starting line-up for a Group Stage match against Shakhtar Donetsk.
After featuring ten times for the second string, Craig joined Millwall on loan in January and made six appearances for the Championship side.
A right-back converted into a hard-working central midfielder, Craig impresses with a fine passing range.
Craig Eastmond was under the age of 21 on January 1, 2010 and therefore it was not necessary to name him in Arsenal's official 2010/11 Premier League squad.

46. Henri Lansbury

Scoring a goal at White Hart Lane in your first North London derby isn’t a bad way to announce yourself to the Arsenal fans and that’s exactly what local lad Henri did on his first start for the Club last season.
The tough-tackling midfielder, who captained England at youth level, netted the opening goal against Tottenham and played a pivotal role in a 4-1 win in the Carling Cup.
He joined Norwich on loan in November and played a key role in helping them win automatic promotion to the Premier League.
He was then part of the England Under-21 squad that took part in the European Championships in June 2011.
Henri Lansbury was under the age of 21 on January 1, 2010 and therefore it was not necessary to name him in Arsenal's official 2010/11 Premier League squad.
